MPL 2017 Predictions and Ranking
Class A- Guaranteed Top 4: Camberwell, Hawthorn, Greensborough Class B- Fighting for Top 4: Powerhouse, Doncaster, Altona Class C- No-mans land: Waverley, MCC, Footscray, Southern Class D- Cellar Dwellers: TEM, MUHC, Mentone, Yarra
CAMBERWELL- Too much depth. Change of coach and loss of some players won't make any difference HAWTHORN- The only team to remotely trouble the reigning Premiers in 2016, will again fall just short GREENSBOROUGH- Back in the top 4 after a poor (by their standards) 2016 POWERHOUSE- Will begin to slip back this season, but should hold onto the last top 4 place DONCASTER- A close fight with Powerhouse likely for the last of the finals positions. ALTONA- Disappointing 2016 will reinvigorate the club, who will put on a strong show. WAVERLEY- Some positive signs last season, still rebuilding and paying the price for lack of junior development in the late 2000s/early 2010s MCC- Some results flattered them last season. FOOTSCRAY- Will finally make a climb up the ladder, if only because a few lower rungs have been added. SOUTHERN- Should be able to hold off the new boys, and have more up sides than Essendon/MUHC ESSENDON- Will struggle once again. TEM- The most consistent of the newly promoted, the only newbie likely to steel a few points here and there. MUHC- Those predicting a move up the ladder are deluded. MENTONE- VL1 Premiers will find the going tough in 2017, but will be competitive with Essendon/MUHC. YARRA- One dimensional game-plan was highlighted and exploited in the VL1 finals last season.

Nice summary. I'd disagree on a few points.
-Camberwell will come back to the pack, still top 4 though. No Kleinschmidt or Philpott has to make a difference -Hawthorn got touched up by Camberwell twice, Greensborough only team that troubled Camberwell last year (and Donny in the loss) -Powerhouse will finish above Hawthorn during regular season, more depth. -Waverly will finish ahead of Altona -Footscray will finish ahead of MCC -MUHC are getting the full compliment of internationals and will finish ahead of the 3 promoted teams and Essendon. -SUHC depends on injuries and how many NZ players and internationals they get, no idea until you see them play. -Import players will go a long way to deciding 5th to 12th so really too early to tell.

"Import" players will have close to 0 impact. Just as has been the case for many years.

No impact on the premiership but plenty of impact on finishing places. Spanish players kept TEM up. NZ players have kept SUHC up. Who knows where MCC would be without imports over the years.

Seeing as TEM have only just come up, those Spanish players must have been busy!!

Obviously talking about past seasons, seeing as no one has played this year.

Pretty sure Greensborough haven't lost to Camberwell in 3 years? So I don't think it was only Hawthorn putting up a challenge...

Greensborough lost the first semi to camberwell in 2015 and 1 of the regular season games. Should say Greensborough hasn't beaten Camberwell for 15 months.

Camberwell have a lot of reasons to drop off considerably most notably the loss of 35 goals and a new coach who has to deal with the loss of the best player in premier league over the last 3 or so years.
Can't see why everyone is jumping on the Footscray bandwagon, still have a below average squad with maybe only 2 or 3 of their players being capable of playing 1s at every other club.
Altona, Waverley, MCC to be fighting for 6th,7th, 8th positions this year, fairly stock standard for those three
Am interested to see how donny and hawthorn come back this year, donny really dropped off at the end of the season due to a lot of injuries at a key moment. They've lost Kiran but am sure they will find 7 goals throughout the whole year from someone else. However have a strong enough spine to push for top 4 again
Burra and powerhouse should be interstering to watch being the other teams to have really worried camberwell over the last couple of year. This past years grand final notwithstanding, burra lose their midfield leader in casey to Perth but still have a strong enough list with the potential return of Mericki to an already potent attack and if rumours are to be believed may have Joel Carroll lined up to play. Powerhouse are losing players and don't have the depth to really call upon their two's players so should be good to watch how they handle this coming year. Both clubs to start slow due to players away playing overseas but will have big closing runs is my guess
I'm thinking Melbourne Uni to be a surprise package, am sure that burrows knows a few gun internationals from over the years and am assuming muhc can put together quite the impressive package. Just ask wookey. SUHC is another team that nobody is sure about, however potential loss of key flicker and highest goal scorer (coaching women's team at southern) makes it hard to gauge without some early season results
Essendon will be awful again. Had about 4 young players but none that make a difference to their points tally
It'll be interesting to see how the new clubs go, but judging off the VL1 grand final I'd like to think they may be in for a long hard year. However might get an influx of players or internationals to keep them afloat.
Shall be interstering to see how it all falls apart

Might have to have a check Camberwell lost both mid year games 2015 2-1/2-0 and beat Greensborough in the semi in extra time so let me adjust my comment haven't been able to beat them in a 70min match in 3 years. God only knows how they will do it now...

Hockey Vic results show the scores in 2015 as 2-1 and 1-0 to Greensborough, so apologies. By your logic though I think Greensborough have more to worry about then Camberwell do:
Greensborough wont have beaten Camberwell for over 550 days once the season starts! Greensborough wont have beaten Powerhouse for over 570 days once the season starts Greensborough wont have beaten Doncaster for over 595 days once the season starts Greensborough wont have beaten Hawthorn for over 600 days once the season starts
Greensborough haven't beaten TEM since 2013, that's a bigger worry!

I'd like to also but in here on your logic, powerhouse and hawthorn didnt beat camberwell all year. Does that mean they have more to worry about? Greensborough did not have a full list all year, yet finished 5th by not much. The fact that teams were happy that they didnt finish to make finals shows how worried teams were of them. If anything I'm worried for my club if they add Joel Carroll to their list and certain players such as Zull, Mirecki overcome injuries and they have have players like Heath, Byron, Josh not overseas. Not to mention Cross for a full year at the standard his playing hockey. What if Simpson comes back from Perth? Chances here if they can get everything right and recruit a new coach they could be back for a 6th win with this group...

Why is it choking if you lose to Camberwell or Greensborough? They have been the best sides for several years, which is why they have won every flag since 2012. Only 2 other teams have made a GF in that period.
I doubt Greensborough or Camberwell will have too many issues with their missing players this season, just as I doubt either Camberwell or Greensborough are that worried about each other. The whole league make finals this year so it will just be about who matches up well against who, and who you end up playing in the finals.

There is silence regarding 2017 predictions. Are people waiting for the fixtures to be released? Is it all about who teams play twice and the ease of the draw?
